The Kuari Pass Trek is one of the most scenic Himalayan trails in Uttarakhand, known for its beautiful forests, open meadows, and stunning mountain views. Often called the Lord Curzon Trail, this trek offers breathtaking panoramas of some of the highest peaks in India, including Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, and Trishul. Distance: ~255 km | Travel Time: 10–11 hrs | Altitude: ~6,150 ft (Joshimath)

 

Early morning departure from Rishikesh/Haridwar (~5:00 AM). Drive through Devprayag, where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers meet to form the holy Ganga. Visit Dhari Devi Temple near Srinagar — a revered temple of Goddess Kali on the banks of the Alaknanda River. Enjoy a scenic mountain drive through pine forests and river valleys.

Trail opens into vast alpine meadows with stunning mountain backdrops. Camp at Khullara — a wide open clearing with unobstructed Himalayan views. Experience a star-lit Himalayan night sky away from civilization.

Early morning trek across Khullara meadows blanketed with snow (seasonal). Stand atop Kuari Pass — the "Window to the Himalayas". Marvel at the 360° panorama of Hathi Ghoda, Neelkanth, Dronagiri, Kedarnath, Kamet, Chaukhamba and Neelgiri peaks. A perfect spot for unforgettable photos and soul-stirring views.

Trek: 8 km downhill to Tugasi Village (5–6 hrs) | Drive: 15 km Tugasi to Joshimath (1 hr)

 

Retrace your path at a relaxed pace with beautiful views and a sense of completion. Drive to Joshimath and enjoy an optional stroll around town — visit Narsingh Temple, Shankaracharya Math and the sacred 1,200-year-old Amar Kalpavriksha tree.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Kuari Pass is an Easy to Moderate level trek. The trail is clearly defined and the elevation gain is gradual, making it manageable for first-time trekkers. However, basic physical fitness is required — you should be able to brisk walk 5 km in 40 minutes.

The trek can be done in two seasons:

  • Spring/Summer — March to June (blooming rhododendrons, clear skies)
  • Autumn/Winter — September to December (stable weather, excellent visibility)
  • Winter Snow Trek — November to March (snow-covered trails, more challenging) Monsoon season (July–August) is not recommended due to heavy rain and slippery trails.

Lord George Curzon, the Viceroy of India, first explored this route around 1905 while travelling through the remote areas of the Garhwal Himalayas. Since then, the trail has been popularly known as the Lord Curzon Trail.

Yes, the trek is safe for women travelling solo. Tent or room accommodation is provided on a sharing basis with other women trekkers. If a woman is the only one in the group, single occupancy accommodation is provided at no extra cost.

Cancellation by The Northern Monk

  • In case of natural disasters, government restrictions, or other unavoidable circumstances — 100% refund or rescheduling option provided.

Dropout During Trip

  • If a traveler exits the trip due to health, fitness, or personal reasons — No refund will be issued.
  • All return travel or any additional costs incurred during early departure must be borne by the traveler.

Refund Terms

  • All refunds are processed within 7–10 business days.
  • Refunds are credited to the original payment method used at the time of booking.
  • Bookings made via vouchers are not eligible for cash refunds — the voucher will be reissued and remain valid for 1 year from the original booking date.

  • Your booking is confirmed only after full payment is received.
  • A confirmation email will be sent to you within 24 hours of successful payment.
  • Your trek voucher will be shared 3–5 days before the trek start date.
  • A minimum of 6 participants is required for a trek to be operational.
  • If the minimum participant count is not met, The Northern Monk reserves the right to cancel the trek and a full refund will be provided.

  • A 50% advance payment is required to block your seat.
  • The remaining balance must be paid at least 15 days before the trek start date.
  • Failure to pay the balance on time may result in automatic cancellation of your booking.
  • We accept the following payment methods: UPI, Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, and PhonePe.
  • All prices are inclusive of GST — no hidden charges.

  • 30+ days before the trek — Free rescheduling to any available batch.
  • 15–29 days before the trek — Rescheduling available at a fee of ₹2,000.
  • 7–14 days before the trek — Rescheduling available at a fee of ₹3,000.
  • Less than 7 days before the trek — Rescheduling is not permitted.
  • A maximum of 1 reschedule is allowed per booking.
  • All rescheduling is subject to availability in the requested batch.
